This is an oversimplification of the economic impact of the “black death” on Western Europe but there is no doubt that the demise of feudalism was accelerated and ultimately replaced by capitalism.

In other words, that pandemic fundamentally changed the way people lived, worked and made their incomes.

The U.S. the Civil War had a similar society changing effect. The war accelerated the growth of modern industrial society resulting in a roughly half century of growth in our economy and in personal income.

My point here is that our current COVID-19 pandemic with its world-wide impact will have a transformational effect on the way we make our incomes going forward. It’s already accelerating the digital revolution already underway.
