Communication Arts interviewed Ted about his work with creatives and lessons learned in successful negotiations.

How can creative vulnerability be used to create an advantage in business deals? Use your vulnerability to indicate how deeply you feel about your work. One of the best creative directors I’ve ever worked with completely surprised me in a critical presentation by saying to the client: “To tell you the truth, I’m really nervous about this presentation. I’m nervous because I care so much about the work we’ve done, I just don’t want to blow it!” The client responded by saying: “That’s exactly why we want to work with you. We know your heart is in it.”
